ISO 9001:2008

What is ISO?

International Organization for Standards (ISO) is an elite 100 member organization. It's objective is to provide the development of world wide standards for the improvement of operating procedures, efficiency, productivity, and reducing costs.

ISO 9001:2008 applies to all types of organizations. It doesn't matter what size they are or what they do. It can help both product and service oriented organizations achieve standards of quality that are recognized and respected throughout the world.

Why is ISO important?

There are 3 concepts to ISO 9001:2008 that make this program important and effective.

  1. Focus on processes. The ISO 9001:2008 standard is based on a typical business process: activities where inputs are converted into outputs. The process approach ensures that the relationships between requirements and elements are visible.
  2. Focus on customer satisfaction. ISO 9001:2008 recognizes that quality is more than doing what is required by the contract with the customer. Quality is based on both objective and subjective criteria. Customer satisfaction is introduced as a mandatory concept in ISO 9001:2008.
  3. Continuous improvement. ISO 9001:2008 is clearly based on the continuous improvement cycle: plan, do, check and act. There are specific requirements for gathering data (measurements), analysis of this data and improvement.
